Enquire/Inspire strikes back! In this blog series, we want to introduce you to our team members, so that they’re something more than just black-and-white avatars on our Team page. Our team is full of crazy, inspiring souls definitely worth bragging about. In this post, you’ll get to know Szymon Frącczak, our Senior Developer, hooked on SQL and with more pastimes than we can count.

I’m happiest in my job when…

I’m working on queries or code optimization. I have worked as a database developer for 7 years and most of this time I spent optimizing PostgreSQL systems, queries, configuration, indexes, etc. There is nothing better in coding than optimizing, and the satisfaction of a fast working feature.

When not working, I indulge myself in…

Relaxing, running, biking, gaming, watching TV, walking the dog in the forest, gym, reading (books, blogs, papers), hunting, thinking, staring at the ceiling, playing with a cat - whatever makes me relaxed on a particular day!

Every day I visit…

Blogger by Google. Not the best tool in the world, but it lets me follow some technical blogs, such as:

My favourite mobile app is…

I don't have any.

My technological guru is…

Depesz from depesz.com. I found his blog a few years ago when I was working as a database developer and was learning PostgreSQL when it wasn't so popular. This guy knows SQL like the back of his hand and the content of his blog posts reflects this.

I first took up web development when…

My friends needed a cheap app to prepare and print veterinary treatment certificates. I decided to try to do it myself. I chose Ruby and Ruby on Rails as a framework. Now I'm very happy with that decision.

Recently, I’ve been inspired by…

My current project :). Complex SQL queries inspired me to write a gem and two blog posts: about thinking in SQL while working in Ruby on Rails and SQL query result models with part two in progress.

The greatest challenge at work I succeeded at was…

Working with MongoDB after a few years of using relational databases. I had to change my way of thinking completely.

I couldn’t live without…

My wife, Iwona.

If I could give advice to myself on my 1st day at Netguru, I’d say…

"Don't worry, be happy!"

Every day at Netguru offers new lessons to learn. Every mistake can become a success - as long as you don’t repeat it!

Stay tuned for more Enquire/Inspire posts. If reading this one got you curious about working here - feel free to drop us a line. We’ll be happy to hear from you!

For those of you who would like to apply for a job in Netguru, we have a quick guide on questions you may expect during a job interview. Check it out!
