It was the first edition of the Project Management Workshops at netguru. We had a blast and we’re already looking forward to future editions. But before that, let’s enjoy the moment one more time with a recap!
We had been thinking about hosting PM workshops for a while. Our PM team is growing, and becoming more experienced—we felt it was time to share that knowledge.
We decided to accept 14 people into our PM workshop; ideally it would be creative bunch of open-minded people, who were eager to learn project management. The first challenge was to choose the best-of-the-best from our applicants who applied with our preliminary task.
We had over 80 stories submitted—funny, interesting, and empowering stories about everything from pants, spoons, and Nutella, to the most useful digital tools used in their daily lives.
We then choose the 14 most convincing individuals, ones that went on to prove their brilliance. Before we go any further, we want to say a big, “Thank you!” to all of our participants.
The workshops took two exhausting, yet wonderful days. On Saturday, we divided participants into three groups. The first day focused primarily on the technical aspects of a project manager’s daily work:
Mockups - worth even more than 1000 client’s words,
Estimations - how to reliably estimate time, resources, etc. for tasks.
Based on the theoretical knowledge we shared, every group prepared some simple mockups and user paths according to their own ideas for apps.
All the hard work groups had done on Saturday was used on the next day, which we spent on practicing soft skills (assertiveness, negotiations, communication - including effective Dracula-hunting!). This was done during meetings with imaginary clients.
The big finale was the After Action Review prepared by every single group. This way, everyone could share their workshop achievements and the results of their work.
