I have read twointeresting articles about group thinking, brainstorming and other ways to improve ones creativity.
The most interesting findings were:
Traditional Alex Osborn’s kind of brainstorming session doesn’t work - it’s impossible to come up with a brilliant idea on one of those “don’t criticize, stay open minded, contribute” kind of sessions.
A lot of inventors are introverts who like to stay alone tinkering their ideas.
Group thinking creates social friction which consumes much of creative energy. ‘Don’t criticize’ rule doesn’t help with anything. No criticizing means no challenging and evolution of ideas.
You need to be alone, focused, without any interruptions to finish your task efficiently.
The best way of groupthink seems to be working alone and then challenging different ideas or solutions within a small group of people you know, but you are not in too close relationship with.
